Alexander has a strong focus on energy law, international arbitration and high-value litigation. He joined DPC early in his studies and quickly became an integral part of the team, well before graduating from Sofia University.

A trusted advisor in the energy sector, Alexander regularly works on projects involving renewables (solar, wind, BESS), regulatory compliance, environmental permitting, licensing and energy market access.

Alexander has also extensive experience in arbitration and state court proceedings, with experience under ICC, VIAC and has been involved in key proceedings that have shaped local practice.

In addition to his dispute-focused work, Alexander has advised on dozens of renewable energy M&A transactions, including solar PV, wind and battery storage projects at various stages of development.

Work highlights

  • Securing a first-of-its-kind interim measure in a corporate dispute prohibiting voting rights on shares, which had never been granted by a Bulgarian court before;
  • Representing a major international energy trader in insolvency proceedings against a Bulgarian counterparty, involving multiple fuel supply contracts, complex claims for demurrage, financial losses from untriggered futures positions, rolling costs, and contractual interest. The case involves legal issues under Bulgarian, English, and Spanish law;
  • Acting in insolvency proceedings concerning claims exceeding EUR 128,500,000 arising from cross-border energy trading, including losses under ISDA-governed hedging arrangements and long-term PPAs. The case involved claims governed by English, Swiss, and German law and complex valuation of financial instruments and contractual damages;
  • Acting for a group of foreign energy operators in challenging an administrative act of the Minister of Energy which imposed a temporary ban on the export of electricity;
  • Contributing to a landmark case that led to a preliminary reference to the CJEU, concerning the compatibility of Bulgarian law with EU energy rules;
  • Representing a claimant in a private enforcement action for damages arising from a competition law infringement by a global vehicle manufacturer, one of the first cartel damages cases of its kind in Bulgaria
